Fire in the lower ninth community kills three dogs, displaces seven residents

New Orleans (WVUE) -a two -alarm fire that raged through a quarter of the lower ninth community, demanded the life of three pet dogs and sales of seven inhabitants on two streets, the fire brigade of New Orleans announced on Tuesday (March 18).

In the fire that broke out around 4:19 p.m., five structures were destroyed and 50 firefighters with 18 NOFD units were brought to control for about an hour.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, said the NOFD, but the officials said that it was apparently started in or near a trailer in the 1024 Charbonnet St.

The NOFD said that the family home in this address was almost completely involved in flames when the first firefighters arrived on site five minutes after shipping. These units immediately had a second alarm for more help, since the burning house was on others on the same street and the street behind it.

The fire spread to houses on both sides of the original combustion structure, in which there were two people who were not at home at that time. Another couple escaped the house on the right with 1028-30 Charbonnet, but could not be able to save three dogs in the house. An older man fled the house at 1020-22 Charbonnet, but his house was also made uninhabitable.

Behind the original fire, two houses in the Lamanch Street 1025 and 1027 also burned fire damage for radiant heat. An older couple also escaped at the latter address, but was expelled when the house was considered unsafe to fill them.

The NOFD said it was supported by the St. Bernard Parish fire department, which was sent in the flames and smoke near the municipal boundary.

No injuries were reported to residents or firefighters.
