All -day kindergarten lottery in Avon Lake City Schools avoided

Agon Lake-in February reported News 5 on the decision of the school district Avon Lake City to increase the tuition fees for his full-day kindergarten program due to budget restrictions after rejection of bond and the operating tax last year.

Next school year, tuition fees for the full-day kindergarten will increase from $ $ 6,280 from $ 2,400. The half -day kindergarten remains free.

In February, superintendent Joelle Magyar said that the district had planned to remove the full -day offer, since the tuition fees cover only about 40% of the costs. But Magyar said the parents expressed their concerns and the district reversed the course.

Take a look at the original report of News 5 of February 6, 2025.

“We had some parents who came back to us and said:” Please offer a full -day option. “And we said we could have a full -day option if they were fully financed by the parents.

In the next school year, she said that the enrollment would be limited to 120, and if there were more applicants than spots, a lottery would take place on March 18. In this school year, 189 students are enrolled in all -day kindergarten.

I checked Magyar on Tuesday afternoon. She said a lottery was not needed and there were still about 20 kindergartens places.

In my original history, I spoke to two mothers who worried about the price increase and the challenges that some families would face.

I checked back to see what they decided.

Jordana Revella, who works full -time, said she had enrolled her daughter in all day kindergarten.

Katie Nally, a mother who stays at home, wanted her daughter to visit the all -day kindergarten, as her older siblings did, but opted for the free half -day offer.
