A joint operation between the US and Mexican authorities has led to a transnational migrant smuggling network along the border between the USA and Mexico. The operation aimed at an organization based in Juarez, Chihuahua, which made it easier for people's illegal smuggling, including children, from Central America to the United States.

According to the US Ministry of Justice, the criminal network of smuggling corridors, which concentrated in the Anapra, Chihuahua/Santa Teresa region, used the Chihuahua and New Mexico region. Many of his members were Mexican citizens, including current and former members of various cartels in Mexico.

The authorities claim that the organization not only smuggles a large number of individuals, but also kidnaps migrants and blackmailed their families for money before they have completed their trip.

The enforcement operation carried out by Mexico's General Prosecutor (Fiscalía General de la República, FGR) in cooperation with the joint task force Alpha (JTFA) led to the arrests of two people: Brian Alan Torres González and Soledad Morales Nava. Both are Mexican citizens and are prosecuted in Mexico, with evidence of the United States.

“The current action of the Mexican authorities is the most recent example of how (JTFA) provides critical contributions to the marshal of the department and public prosecutor's resources of the department and its law enforcement partners in order to address human smugglers and to improve coordination in transnational law enforcement efforts to better combat these criminals Organizations, “said the Supervisory officer Antoinette T. Bacon from the penalty department of the Ministry of Justice through an official declaration.

“While these law enforcement successes are encouraging, the broader geopolitical context – in particular the tense relationship between the former President Trump and the Mayor of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum – takes on a layer of complexity of future bilateral cooperation,” said the geopolitical analyst Irina Tsukerman of Latin Times.

However, Tsukerman believes that the operation is a clear example of what both governments can achieve if you prefer cooperation with rhetoric:

“The DOJ-FGR enforcement measure shows that cooperation in transnational criminal activities is still possible, even in the middle of controversial political environments. Security and criminal investigations are areas in which mutual interests such as protection of limits, the maintenance of the rule of law and The securing of national security, transcends partisans is shared.
