16,828 Teu Oocl Iris stated a new port of the Savannah size record

The Oocl iris became the largest capacity ship that has ever referred to the port of Savannah when it arrived at the Terminal of the Garden City on Tuesday, February 25th.

With a maximum capacity of 16,828 20 foot equivalent container units that Oocl iris Is 1.204 feet long and 167 feet wide. The CMA CGM Marco Polo kept the previous maximum capacity record in the port of Savannah with 16,022 Teu.

The port of Savannah will carry out more than 2,800 container movements on and outside the Iris, mainly 40-foot containers, which correspond to a little more than 5,000 teus. The ship is scheduled to leave Savannah around midnight on Wednesday, February 26th.

Delivered in December 2024, Oocl iris is the second in a series of ten 16,828 TEU container ships to order so that Hong Kong, based in overseas in overseas, is delivered by China's Nantong Cosco Khi Ship Engineering (Nacks) Shipyard.

In 2026, the Georgia Department of Transportation begins in a project to replace existing cables on the Talmadge Bridge and to raise its height. This enables even larger ships to operate the port of Savannah.
