Two Pennwest Clarion football players were suspended under an investigation of an “incident of violence” that took place over the weekend, according to the university.

In an explanation, Pennwest said that it was “deliberately an incident of violence” that happened outside the campus. The school did not provide any further details, but said that the state police would be examined.

“We collect the facts to understand the circumstances and to work with the state police of Pennsylvania, which lead the criminal investigation,” said the school.

A spokesman for the university confirmed that two students were suspended by the activities of the soccer team until further examination.

“Pennwest does not tolerate acts of violence and is still obliged to promote a safe, integrative and respectful environment,” said the university in an explanation.

In a Facebook post, Pennwest Clarion asked everyone to contact the police or the university's police.

Pennwest Clarion is one of three Pennsylvania Western University Campus. The university was founded when California, Edinboro and Clarion merged.

KDKA-TV turned to the state police to obtain further information about the investigation.
