4 Oakland fire stations Avoid temporary closures in the middle of the budget deficit

Oakland, California – – – The city of Oakland says it will open four fire leaders instead of temporarily closing it in view of a lack of budget of almost 130 million US dollars.

Three other stations are still “browned” by June to close the planned budget deficit, the city administrator's office announced on Friday. It is expected to be reopened after the end of the financial year.

A number of budget cuts, including a setting freeze, the cancellation or reduction of urban grants, and the releases of the employees have reduced the planned gap for the current year, the city officials said in a press release.

That was enough to save four of the seven fire stations that were previously announced for the temporary closure.

“This was made possible by the hard decisions and the determined leadership of our mayor and our city council,” said city administrator Jestin Johnson in the press release.

The fire stations 25 and 28, both in the Oakland Hills, were temporarily closed in January. You will be reopened in July when the fire change risks. A third station for renovation is reopened when the project is completed, officials said.
