57 ash sentences connected to Cobb County Funeral Home Fire, do not remain stressful WSB TV channel 2

The Cobb County Medical Examiner office has published 57 names associated with ashes that were discovered in a funeral company that caught fire last year.

“If there are family members who know these people or are connected to them and who want to continue to give a worthy funeral, we would like to hear from these people,” said Ross Cavitt, communication director of Cobb County.

The funeral home Medford-Peden caught fire in April 2024.

In November, a hobby photographer from London named Ben James said he had traveled to Cobb County to take photos of a forgotten space.

Inside he saw ashes and documents that were connected to previous customers, photographed and posted them online.

Someone saw her and alarmed Marietta Police.

Days later, the investigators appeared and took dozens of Cinders' sets from the burned building.

Since then, the district has been working to connect families with the cremains.

“We have contacted some family members,” said Cavitt.

However, he said that the medical examiner's office was unable to find members of 57 ash sets.

Cavitt said that this could be because the Ministry of Family and Children's Services was responsible for some of the cremation.

“This burial institute has treated the needy burials with DFAC's. These are cases in which family members cannot be found when someone dies or someone dies, and there are no resources to bury them. It goes to DFACs who work with local funeral home to cope with these cases, ”said Cavitt. “We believe that there is a large number of those in this category. In this case, we may not be able to find family members, but we still only want to publish it as an abundance of caution and care. “

State records show that the funeral home was dissolved in 2021. The person listed as the owner of the building did not answer our request for a comment.

The Marietta police authority said his investigation was closed. The state is still investigating.
