$ 630 million Lady Bird Lake Bridge Reconstruction to start soon as part of the I-35 project

Phase 2 of the project adds two HOV lanes along the I-35 between Holly Street and Ben White Boulevard.

Austin, Texas-Das Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) is preparing to start the next phase of his I-35 expansion project through the city center of Austin.

The transit agency said on Thursday that phase 2 of the Capital Express Central project would start soon. The project will add two HOV lanes in both directions along the I-35 between Holly Street and Ben White Boulevard.

The 630 million dollar project will also reconstruct the Lady Bird Lake Bridge, build a new exchange on the Riverside Drive to record future Light Rail routes, add a pedestrian bridge in the Woodland Avenue and to improve bicycle and pedestrian trails.

“Txdot provides our commitment and schedule for the provision of overload projects in the city center of Austin,” said Txdot Austin District Engineer Tucker Ferguson. “The construction along the Lady Bird Lake segment will help improve security and improve connectivity to Austin.”

This is followed by phase 1 of the project, which began last October with the reconstruction of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard Bridge.
