Monster Hunter Wilds was finally released! As a follow-up in the wildly successful Monster Hunter World, this game is already incredible success on Steam and will probably sell large numbers for the PS5 and Xbox series X. As I said in my Monster Hunter Wilds Review, this is a simple candidate for the game of the year.

This could be the first Monster Hunter experience of many players who will probably be intimidating when you consider how much this game throws on them.

There are also some new mechanics with which experienced players have to fight. Regardless of whether you are new to the series or not, everyone can benefit from some helpful Monster Hunter Wilds tips to start them.

At the start, Monster Hunter Wilds offers 29 different animals to kill. And although some share certain characteristics, all of these creatures show unique behavior.

Since there are no two monsters the same, you have to pay close attention to how you attack and defend yourself. Yes, Hunts usually have 50-minute time limits, but they shouldn't feel rugged.

Do not hesitate if you look for a new monster to see how it tries to attack you. Conversely, see how it reacts to your attacks and adapt them accordingly.

Each monster is a puzzle to solve. So keep an eye on the behavior. Over time, you intuitively know how you can approach a creature – especially if you repeat missions to get certain monster parts.

Use the focus mode

FOCUS mode is a brand new mechanic that offers you more precise control over your attacks and blocks. If you are used correctly, you can cause enormous damage to the monsters with the FOCUS mode.

If you attack the same part on a monster, it can create wounds in this part of the body – with a red cut. If you recognize this wound, you can enter the focus mode to highlight these wounds. Attack of wounds causes more damage than usual. The focus mode also emphasizes all weak points that the monster may have exposed.

To really bring the pain, you can use a focus on wounds. Each weapon has a unique Focus strike animation, which is often striking and brutal. In certain cases, these strikes will stun a monster or overturn it.

Call help

Monster Hunter Wilds is more forgiving than its predecessors, but it can still be a hard game, especially for newcomers. Fortunately, you don't have to hunt alone.

Your trustworthy Palico cat companion follows you and gives you a paw during hunting by default. And although your furry friend can be useful, it is not an experienced hunter. If you have difficulty completing hunting, you can shoot an SOS flare to ask for help.

This draws up to three NPC players who are kept alive both in hunting and life with healings and buffs. Real-life players in their lobby can also answer their SOS call, and they automatically replace an NPC when they arrive in their game.

Although you can still have a fun time to play solo, you have an even better time to play Monster Hunter Wilds with NPCs or other players.

The singer

The singer – which is like a grappling hook and slingshot in one device – is not new to Monster Hunter, but it has more usefulness than ever.

Instead of picking up objects by hand, you can use your Slinger to grab objects from a distance. You can do this while driving on foot or driving on your mount. Almost every element on the map is used, so it is best to snap everything you see with your Slinger.

The Slinger is also ideal for activating environmental dangers against Monster. For example, you can shoot the Slinger on a stone piece of rock and then pull this rock onto a monster, which fought the animal.

There are different pods that you can pick up and fire from your Slinger. Pods have different properties, such as flash pods that temporarily blind monsters. It is good to experiment with different pods that you find to see which works best against certain monsters.

Between the hunt you spend a lot of time in tents in basic camps or build on the cards. Here you do everything you need to prepare for hunting. You can fill up and tinker objects, select and save certain loads, cook meals and much more.

The three predetermined load-outs contained in your tent have most elements you need. However, I recommend creating your own tailor-made load-outs.

The selection of a load-out is also a good way to give excess objects that you have recorded while hunting and exploring. You can also select your weapons and equipment within the tent.

If you only operate a little (money), you can sell unnecessary items. However, I recommend not selling monsters because you may need them for craft purposes.

With the radial menu, you can quickly access items and commands while hunting and adjust it in your tent. Your circumstances will be different, so I cannot tell you what you should place in your radial menu. My advice is to go through your item list in your tent to best optimize the radial menu.

Always forge new equipment

The successful killing or catching of Monsters rewards you with monster parts and other objects. You can then use these items to create stronger weapons and armor so that you can take over stronger monsters. This forms the core loop of Monster Hunter Wilds and is something that you shouldn't neglect.

If you make new equipment, you need to visit the Smithy Gemma in the basic camps. As long as you have the necessary items, you can produce all kinds of armor and weapons for you. It is always best to visit Gemma after every hunt to see what she can forge for her.

If you have your eyes directed to certain equipment, you can add them to your wish list. The game notifies you if you have recorded a necessary item to manufacture equipment and also show which monsters have what you need when you are in the Select menu mission.
