According to Kennedy News, as cited from New York Post, Scarlett Selby had come across online videos that changed the texture of Needoh cubes by frozen and then heated them. When she tried to replicate the process, she put the toy in the microwave. However, when she removed it, the cube suddenly exploded and covered her face and chest with hot material.

Her father Josh Selby, 44, became aware of her agonizing scream.

“Everything happened so quickly. I heard it screaming and it was like a bloody cry,” he said.

Selby hurried to help his daughter and desperately tried to remove the sticky, burning substance from her skin and clothing. Scarlett was immediately taken to the hospital, where doctors put them in a medically induced coma because the burns near their mouth could cause a dangerous swelling of the airways.

Her mother, Amanda Blakenship, said how Scarlet's scars influenced her confidence.

“She becomes very confident and I will see how she tries to cover her scar with her shirt when we are in public. Or she will come home from school and say that another child asked her about it,” she said.

“We still put creams and silicon albums every day. They are such profound scars that are stuck by their skin,” she added, explaining that doctors were waiting to wait until Scarlett is about 12 years old to assess whether further medical interventions will be required.

The father's warning to the parents

After the traumatic incident, Scarlet's father is now asking parents to reject the toy from Needoh as a whole.

He warned that the substance in the toy behaves like hot glue and caused severe burns during the explosion. “As soon as the skin comes into contact, it is extremely difficult to remove,” emphasized Selby.

He also expressed concerns about the safety and marketing of the toy and argued that it should not be sold in its current form.
