A warm start to march

Anchorage, Alaska (Ktuu) – The temperatures are far above the seasonal norms for a large part of the mainland Alaska. A series of storms that rise from the Pacific Ocean transports warm, moist air directly into the state. The coastal areas from southeast to south center have the greatest influence in the rain. But a few storms that come Sunday to Tuesday will shift part of this warming and winter mix of rain and snow to western locations of the state.

A winter weather advice will come into force on Sunday evening for the Talleys and the Middle Yukon Valley in the lower Innoko and the Yukon River. The snow could go up to 3 inches, and a glaze is also possible if the temperatures rise.

Interior Alaska will see a freezer-hazoz cycle with daytime temperatures above freezing. The melting snow and the ice during the day are frozen again at night when the temperatures drop and the streets make very smooth.

The Iditarod's ceremonial start occurred this morning in the city center of Anchorage under partially cloudy sky and temperatures that started in the 20s and rose until the 1930s. Anchorage reached 41 for the high if the normal value is 30 degrees at this time of year.
