Alaska Housing Programs gather practically for the homeless day

Anchorage, Alaska (Ktuu) – On Tuesday, the Alaska coalition for housing and homelessness as well as the Anchorage Coalition to Providing homelessness was practically connected with similar groups to discuss their ongoing mission to provide resources and find solutions for those without home.

They estimate that Alaska will need around 27,500 residential units over the next 10 years to meet the needs of our population.

According to their findings, 95% of the people who are put into a permanent apartment will not return to homelessness within two years, while more than every three people who are leaving will return to homelessness.

They have highlighted many successes with grants distributed throughout the state, including the Wasilla Asilla Aspen House, Homeplate Nome, the apartments of the Juneau Cordova Street and the Little Houses of Sitka.

Federal cuts were a topic that was concerned for homeless programs throughout the state.

“To have a sustainable reaction system, we need sustainable means. In addition, we need space to grow, we can not only be financed flat forever and do not have enough resources to either fulfill the needs financially for the programs or in our communities, ”said Owen Hutchinson with Anchorage coalition to end the homelessness.

They also encourage those who work with the homeless population to contact state and federal leaders and to tell them how living space in their area looks so that they can better support their customers.
