Alaska Zoo celebrates the international polar bear day

Anchorage, Alaska (Ktuu) – Alaska Zoo celebrated the International Polar Bear Day on Thursday.

The two polar bears of the Zoo – Cranbeary and Kova – were treated as a surprise with toys and special delicacies.

The day is used to honor polar bears and support the maintenance efforts around the world. This includes sensitization for the heating temperatures and shrinking sea ice.

“Today is only a special day when we try to interest people for polar bears and use it as an education time to teach problems about polar bears and only know things about polar bears,” said Rich Capitan, education director of Alaska Zoo.

The International Polar Bärtag is every February 27th and marks the period in which polar bear mothers and cubs usually sleep in their caves.

The day was created in 2011 by the non -profit organization Polar Bear International.
