Alex Shackell will have a “hybrid schedule” in Indiana and continue to train in Carmel

Olympic gold medalist Alex Shackell According to the head coach of the Carmel Swim Club, he will use a “hybrid schedule” while fighting for Indiana University Chris Plumb.

Statement by Plumb:

After careful consideration, Alex Shackell It has decided to continue her training in Carmel while pursuing her college experience. Indiana University offers Alex flexibility to compensate for her career as an elite swimming career with its academic goals. It will begin in the spring of 2026 as part of a hybrid schedule at IU. Alex 'primary focus will stay on international competition because it continues to represent the United States at the highest level of sport.

While Plumb has rejected it to describe what the “hybrid plan” will look like, other people who are informed about the situation have presented a plan to share Shackell's training between Indiana University and Carmel Swim Club.

Indiana also refused to explain the Hybrid schedule, even though the school offers a robust online study program training program.

Shackell, who won an Olympic gold medal and Olympic silver medal at the Paris Games as part of American Relays, is the high-ranking recruit in the high school class from 2025.

The Carmel Swim Club, one of the top,, if not the top swimming clubs in junior age in the United States, has proven to be a draw for many programmalums. Alex 'older brother Aaron spent a semester in Cal and a semester in Texas before returning home. Others, like the former Michigan swimmer Wyatt Davis, did the floor.

The Indiana Women last week at the Big Ten championships took second place.

Shackell should join the Hoosiers in spring 2026. Carmel is about 75 minutes drive from Bloomington.
