Amarillo Botaniker gives tips on preparing for the spring garden

Amarillo, Texas (KfDA) – An Amarillo Botanist shares what you can do to prepare your gardens before this spring.

With warmer temperatures and large box shops that start selling plants and flowers, this can tempt you to start planting now.

An Amarillo expert recommends that you might want to hold your favorite flowers or plants a little longer. However, there are things that you can do to prepare your garden or floor for plants.

“At the moment, if you want to plant something, it is a great time to plant trees and time to cut trees,” said Greg Lusk, Managing Director of Amarillo Botanical Gardens. “You can tidy up your garden, you can work on the floor, whereby some changes can prepare it.”

With regard to garden vegetables or perennials, Lusk says, the best time to plant them, is in mid -April.

“There are a few things that you can do in the vegetable garden, some people already make onion sets. If it stays warm and beautiful, you have a great harvest, so the timing is everything in the garden, ”said Lusk.

He also adds that now is a good time to pour your trees and shrubs, which benefits them to go into the spring flowering season.
