Anchoring the fresh ideas of the New Look IMPOUT football, faces, the first wave of spring practices

Kalamazoo, Mi – Western football in Michigan, similar to the rest of the College Football World, was influenced in this low season with a lot of wear – both in employees and in the player form.

Nevertheless, the Broncos made it possible to move the corridors and to pursue a different approach that occurs in the third grade of the Lance Taylor era. And only two spring practices in the spring change is obvious.

The Broncos brought winners.

“This is one of the big things we, when we structured this team in the low season, who wanted to bring in winners,” said Taylor about his focus outside of the season. “It was about identifying players and trainers who have made it at a high level and what it takes to win.

The Broncos have set up the building blocks for a winning culture under Taylor -it has led the WMU to their first Bowl game appearance since 2021 and only the 12th in the program history in 2024.

But with more than 30 new players and six new coaches who are entering the 120th episode of Broncos football this autumn, Taylor has to take the next step as a program, and must be adaptable in a constantly changing college football landscape.

“It is the new world of college football, and as a trainer, just like we ask our players, we have to adapt and adapt,” said Taylor. “I am very happy about the new players and coaches that we added, and it is an opportunity to really reset the culture and start and rebuild what we want to do again in autumn in the low season.

At the top of this revision is the new defensive coordinator Chris O'Leary, who takes over the reins of the defense of the Broncos after Scott Power left in Wisconsin in Wisconsin in January.

O'Leary served Los Angeles Chargers' security assurance last season and helped transform a unit to help the NFL playoffs on the way of chargers.

Taylor said O'Leary gives the Broncos a new fold.

“Defensively, coach O'Leary brought some things with him at Notre Dame, but also things he learned from the La Chargers, and we implement some of these things,” he said. “There will be a transfer from what we did last year, but there will be some new wrinkles based on our staff.

With regard to the players, the MycHA introduced 24 additions during their class 2025, including 14 high school seniors and eight Power Four Transfers. Three of these transfers are former four-star recruits, including the former offensive line of the Lineman Raheem Anderson to Michigan and the return of Cole Cabana.

Perhaps above all, but the Broncos will have a new starting quarterback this autumn.

With the conclusion of Hayden Wolff, the competition for the starting job is already heating between the returnees Broc Lowry and Mark Konechy and JUCO Transfer Brady Jones.

“I am very happy about our quarterback room and it's a great competition,” said Taylor. “Brady is a Californian Juco all-American and he worked very hard in our winter conditioning program and also learned the system.

The offensive line of the Broncos is revised with the departures of the all-Americans Jacob Gideon and Addison West, but the seniors John Hofer and Adam Vandervest are back and they were significantly involved in WMU's run-up offensive under Taylor.

The new offensive line trainer Joe Pawlak replaces Trevor Mendelson, who took an opportunity with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“For me it always starts at the front,” said Taylor. “We lost some really good players, but our new coaches have already done excellent work.

“Lolo Mataele and Devin Meilen from California, they were great players for their respective teams, and so we have a strong space.

Ultimately, it is about five months before the WMU season is enthusiastic about the 2025 season, but with a revised squad and employee there is already a new sum in the program.

A new outlook to take this next step.

“This is the time for which you live,” said Taylor. “It's a new chance in a new year.

The spring show case by Western Michigan will take place on Saturday, April 12th, in the Waldo Stadium. The time is to be determined.
