Angry Medvedev Squanders four match points, crashes in Dubai

Anger outbreak: Russia's Daniil Medvedev (Mahmud Hams)

The former world number one Daniil Medwedev fell from the Dubai championships on Thursday and disappeared four match points before losing a poorly beaten quarter-finals against Tallon Griekspoor from the Netherlands.

The Dutch, which was ranked 47th, came with 2-6, 7-6 (9/7), 7-5, when the world number six imploded.

Medvedev, the 2023 champion in Dubai, received a code violation against unsportsmanlike behavior after Match slips slip away in the second set.

When his frustration was over, he accused the referee Adel Nour to use “double standards” with Russian players.

Nour stroke back and said Medvedev that he treated all players in the same way, regardless of nationality before he gained away from the symptoms of the top seed.

Griekspoor kept his coolness on the decisive set and won a fourth game point.

Medvedev refused to shake Nour at the end of the tie.

The 28-year-old Griekspoor, who saves three match points in the first round to see himself in front of Roman Safiullin and then overcame the defending champion Ugo Humbert, will either take on a place in the final against Stefanos Tsitsipas or Matteo Berrettini.

“I'm super satisfied with this victory,” said Griekspoor.

“Daniil is an incredible player, an incredible competitor. He has been at the top of the ranking for so many years, so I'm very satisfied with this victory.

“I was a bit of luck about the match points and in the second set.

Canada's Felix Auger-Al.

“It was a big beginning,” said the 21st Auger-Al.

Auger-aliaside hits the French qualification feature Quentin Halys, who came back from a set and broke out to defeat the Italian happy loser Luca Nardi 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7/5).

In the first round, Halies excluded the former master of ninth master Andrey Rublev.
