At least 4 construction workers are killed in an avalanche in northern India

Lucknow, India (AP) – The Indian army says that at least 4 workers died one day after an avalanche swept away a large tree team on a motorway near the Indian mountain border with Tibet. The incident took place on Friday near the Mana Pass in the state of North Uttarakhand, and 55 construction workers were originally caught under snow. The rescuers pulled 50 workers out, four of whom died later, the Indian army announced in an explanation. The search for the five remaining missing workers continued, and several teams from rescuers and military helicopters scan the incident location. The ecologically sensitive Himalaya region, which is severely affected by global warming, is susceptible to avalanches and fall floods.
