Aqua Pa publishes explanation that repeated the safe drinking water in the area

Aqua Pennsylvania today published an explanation of drinking water in Greenside after the fire at SPS Technologies in Jenkintown.

Aqua said it is collecting and testing water samples in the region. The residents of Abington, Cheltenham and Jenkintown can “be sure that their water is safe,” the explanation says. “Further tests have shown that our drinking water quality corresponds to all standards.”

The explanation deals with three concerns: fire brigade outflow, cloudy water (addressed on February 21) and salty -tasting water (mentioned on February 14).

First, the waterways that are affected by the fire fighting efforts are not used by Aqua to provide our neighbors in Abington and Cheltenham Townships and Jenkintown Borough drinking water. Its water comes from a source that is several miles away from the fire brigade scene. No fire -fighting outflow entered her spring water.

Second, some customers noticed that their water seems slightly cloudy. The pipes in the streets that deliver drinking water to their houses are the same pipes that serve the fire hydrants to fight against the campfire. The lengthy, intensive water movement in the pipes can lead to the drinking water, usually from the air with us. Please know again that your water is safe to drink.

After all, you may have noticed that your drinking water has a slightly salty taste. This is not related to the fire. This change is mainly due to the drainage of street salt used on streets, parking spaces and other surfaces treated in response to the latest winter storms and icing conditions. Street salts typically consist of a combination of sodium, chloride and calcium, which naturally occur naturally and can be found in drinking water on a certain day. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) have a secondary standard for chloride, but secondary standards have no risks to public health. The problem is further exacerbated from the continued drought from the low flow of flow, which has the restriction of the dilution of the chloride concentrations.
