At the breakfast of St. Patrick Day, mass. Poles try to facilitate a dark political mood with humor

Chosen officials from Boston and throughout the state joke on Sunday morning at the annual breakfast of Saint Patrick's Day in South Boston jokes and did their best to facilitate the mood for many democrats in Massachusetts at a politically dark moment.

The long tradition of the breakfast of St. Patrick Day offers local politicians the opportunity to celebrate the Irish roots in Boston and to annoy each other with terrifying jokes, which often laugh more unpleasant than laugh. Sunday was no exception, although some moments noticed. The moderator of breakfast, Senator Nick Collins from South Boston, ripped the Mayor Michelle Wu over the $ 650,000 of City Funds, which she prepared for her congress statements the previous week.

“I heard that the mayor was so nervous that she spent another 650 Grand for the preparation,” said Collins.

Collins, one of the political antagonists of the WU, who blocked their tax -cut proposal, also sang a song to the mayor to do it Take me home, country roads:

“Fix the streets, Mayor Wu.

It is not the state, it is up to you.

Give the bike paths and the guilt games.

Fixed the streets, Mayor Wu, “the choir goes

WU for her part took it in step and told the audience: “I wish I could say I would be happy to be here.”

When the mayors took the podium, she seemed to keep her newborn daughter and asked Collins whether he remembered how to keep a baby before hurling the skillful child on him. It was an amazing moment.

“I brought the prop -baby with me,” said Wu to laugh. “It is bad enough that adults have to enforce two and a half hours of bad jokes. I will not make a baby do it.”

But the joke could not cover what political leaders are challenging in this deep blue state. Therefore, Wu turned out from the jokes to the difficult hard line of President Trump against the policy of pro-immigrants in cities such as Boston.

“We will fight against everyone who tries to threaten to intimidate our neighbors, because Boston is the city, which was a safe harbor for waves of immigrants for 400 years,” said Wu.

Governor Maura Healey followed a similar script as WU. At first she made fun of herself and made the light, which many view as their obvious and growing national ambitions and recited a list of their recent top -class media appearances.

“I mean a little appearance at Seth Meyers, an interview with the New York Times, a photo shoot, a few other podcasts like almost politics with Molly Jong-Fast-now available on Apple, Spotify and I-Heart,” said Healey and added with a sham immune disorder. “Why are you laughing?”

But how WU ended Healey her comments with the history of Michael Slater, a veteran from the Western Massachusetts fired from the VA Slater, a victim of the government of the government led by Elon Musk.

“We cannot have our veterans treated in this country like this,” said Healey.

Because of the fate of Slater and many others, Healey said that she hadn't been in a very “chic mood” lately. But like others at breakfast on Sunday, she tried her best.
