Barkley Marathons 2025: a record, but waiting is over as Conch Blown | Ultramarathon News

The 2025 Barkley Marathons will be in the Frozen Head State Park in Tennessee.

“After several failed attempts, the shell was blown at 10:37 a.m.

Dunn is the only source of official updates for the notorious event that made global headlines last year when the British Jasmine Paris was the first woman to end the brutal 100 miles within the assigned 60 hours.

Weather guard

The date of the event – usually at some point in March or early April – is kept secret due to the delicate way of the park's ecosystem to keep the spectators from it.

There is a 12-hour window from midnight to noon, and when the shell is blown, usually from the Maverick Race organizer LAZ Lake, but not this year the 40 competitors know that they have an hour to get ready.

Dunns X -Feed had become surprisingly quiet in the last 48 hours, especially since his favorite -English football team from Newcastle United had won her first trophy in 56 years on Sunday, without he relating her to a repost for bluesky.

But with 23 minutes of Tuesday, which came on the left on Tuesday, this update from Tennessee was coming, which means that the race begins in Great Britain at 3:37 p.m. and 4:37 p.m. in Central Europe.

It is the latest Barkley start in record that defeats the mark from 11:23 from 2015, and it means that the first loop will end for most in the dark because the sunset is 19:49.

The runners, who are all exhibited at 00:00 in the hour before the start, are sent by LAZ on the way, which symbolically illuminates a cigarette.

Dunn added on his social channels: “The camp is very optimistic and ready to go.

There were only 20 finisher in the history of the event – but with a record of five last year (when it is on Wednesday, March 20 at 5:17 a.m., in 2023 (after a start at 9:54 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14th), there is speculation that the lake will make the course harder than ever before.

Much of it will depend on the weather – and at the moment the forecast for the runners is relatively cheap after a challenging weekend. For Wednesday, however, strong winds are predicted, with the temperatures falling significantly on Thursday.

The race, which is generally known as one of the most difficult endurance problems on the planet, has five 20 mile rounds, each of which must be completed within 12 hours.

Who takes part?

So much of the Barkleys is secret, not only the start date, but also who takes part.

There were only a few hints this year, but the headlining name in this phase seems to be three times John Kelly.

He had been inseparable from the event in the past decade and only Jared Campbell can surpass this hat trick of completion.

Much more will be revealed shortly and here is that we know that you have been participating so far.

And our Live Race page It will keep up to date again, which happens from start to finish.

Why the secrecy?

There are very good reasons that so much about the Barkley – especially the start date – is kept under closure.

For the sensitive ecological status of the frozen head state, the audience means positive discouraged.

Those who cover the races respect this and there is also the fact that this is pretty much a unique sporting event in modernity, in which the only real official information comes from this X report from Keith Dunn.

All of this contributes to the charm and the challenge of providing these updates!
