Beaumont Fire Department examines Gilbert Building Fire

On Thursday afternoon, the Beaumont Fire Brigade investigators carried out a search order against the Gilbert building after a “Total Loss” fire that almost destroyed the building last summer.

The building, which caught fire on June 6, belongs to Tom Flanagan, who owns several buildings in downtown Beaumont.

Scott Wheat, district manager about special operations in the firefighter's office, said shortly before 5 p.m. the crews have been actively pumping the water since 1 p.m.

“… The building has reached a point where the construction officers allow us to complete our investigations,” said Wheat. “We pump the water out of the basement so that we can inspect the entire building.”

Wheat said they plan to work until dark if it is no longer safe to continue. He said as soon as they stop for the night, they will re -evaluate.

He could not say what they found, but added that they also concentrate on passing the basement, but also planning to search every area of the building that they have to look at.

In a post on Facebook, the city follows previous attempts on Thursday, which could not be completed due to the condition of the building. Firefighters pump water from the flooded basement of the building so that they can complete a thorough examination of the cause of the fire.
