Birmingham City 1-0 Wycombe hiker: Blues go 12 points in League 1 clear

Taylor Gardner-Hickman scored the only goal when Birmingham took her lead at the top of the first division to 12 points with a win against the second-placed Wycombe.

Birmingham extended her unbeaten league run to 18 games against a Wycombe team that were reduced to 10 men before half-time.

Gardner-Hickman scored his first goal for the club against Leyton Orient on Tuesday and followed him by taking Birmingham the lead after 21 minutes at St. Andrew's.

Ryan Allsop's long kick was collected by Gardner-Hickman, who took the ball onto his chest before turning and setting off.

Wycombe goalkeeper Will Norris produced an excellent rescue, but when he parried the ball, he turned back and hopped over the line.

Wycombe has created opportunities to compensate, but midfielder Xavier Simons has in the meantime sent in the first half.

Simons went for the ball with Ethan Laird and brought the right -back in Birmingham with a falling challenge. Referee Ben Toner gave Simons a straight red and kept the tackle as a dangerous game.

Birmingham recorded the three points and strengthened their firm grip in the promotion race.
