Bookish Bututty: Library host Dr. SEUS Family Fun Day | News

Over 80 soldiers and their family members took on Dr. SEUSS FAMILY FUN Day, which was organized in the library via Fort Cavazos by mobilization, use, stability and support operations program of the Army -Community -Service or MD & SSO.

“Today we have our Dr. Seuss Family Fun Day, and it is a celebration of one of the most popular children's authors of all time, Dr. Seuss, and we have a great old time, ”said Rachana Bethel, librarian for public services, Casey Memorial Library, Directorate of Family and Morality, Welfare and Recreation.

The event that promoted family representatives was held in the children's area of ​​the library and the outdoor terrace. The participants took a scavenger hunt, bingo, stories, handicrafts and “Happy Birthday” for Dr. SEUSS part. Special Guest Cat in the hat spoke with children throughout the event and photographed them with children.

“(We want the children to get) a little fun and a joy and maybe an introduction to a new and popular author if you have previously been familiar with Dr. Seuss and have the chance to enjoy some favorites if they are already familiar with it,” said Bethel.

During the story time, Bethel read two popular books by Dr. Seuss, “The Cat and the Hut” and “Green Eggs and Ham”. Families searched for the entire section of the child for the scavenger hunt for pictures of various Dr. Seuss characters such as Cat in the Hut, the Lorax, Sam-i-am and thing 1 and 2nd, families gathered on the terrace for Dr. Sing “Happy Birthday” and take part in cupcakes. The children also colored a large coloring pages in which the various options were highlighted in order to be friendly. Throughout the event, children won prices to take home.

“We build family strength and only resistance all along the line and want to make sure that we create amazing experiences between parents and children and improve these ties,” said Marielle Moore, MD and SSO specialist and resilience trainer ACS, People Directorates.

The event is also like ACS and the library to read in Turly in America Week.

Reading throughout America is a one -year program that, according to the National Education Association, focuses on the motivation of children and teenagers for reading.

Throughout the week, from March 2 to March 8, libraries, schools and similar organizations and institutions take part in the so -called week of Read in Across America, where they organize theme and events to promote love for reading among the youthful America.

MD & SSO, responsible for the preparation of families for the pre- and post-shift with resources and support of the community, believed that this would be a great way to support these efforts.

“We would like to make sure that the library has an initiative to ensure that families read together,” said Moore. “So (we want) increase the literacy rate in the United States and ensure that we help with the creation of these bonds between parents and child.”

Moore continued and said that they wanted to support many ways for families to strengthen these ties and ensure that they reduce these risk factors against domestic violence and neglect of children. They try to do this by promoting healthy relationships and promoting these relationships between parents and children.

Moore not only wants to see the bond between families, but Bethel wants families to know that they can experience more in the library than the use of computers and a book.

Bethel said she wants to understand soldiers and family members how much there is in the library and promote a mental connection with the library as a place for many resources.

“There will be our normal, regular monthly programming, things like all age books or the homeschool hour, handicrafts or stories,” she said. “And then we also have other special events that vary depending on the month or season. For example, on March 21st we have our annual carnival of the Spring Fling library on the library lawn, and in summer we always organize the summer reading program. “
