Bridge -covered BABBS is opened again before the schedule

The Babb Bridge, which connects Gorham and Windham on the Hurricane Road, is now open for traffic again after the repair was completed by Maine.

The covered bridge was badly damaged in August 2024 when a dumper that exceeded the 3-ton border fell into the Presumpscot River due to the wood base of the structure.

While it is one of only eight remaining covered bridges in Maine, the current Babb bridge is no longer the original bridge that was built in 1840. This structure was destroyed by arson in 1973. The current bridge was opened by the mdot with locally ground wood and historically authentically reconstructed techniques and again in 1976 to traffic.

For this repair, MDOT Communication Director Paul Merrill Mainebiz informed that the repair costs were 110,000 US dollars and that the work in front of the schedule was completed, and that in addition to structural repairs “we also replaced the deck and the deck [ornamental] Doors while we were out there. “
