Brush fire closes the entire road access to Florida Keys

Access to the vehicle and the Florida Keys will be completely closed on Tuesday afternoon, as a brush fire in Miami-Dade County forces both important entry points.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue reported that the fire, which broke out shortly before 1:20 p.m., led to the closure of US 1 in both directions along the 18-mile route and to the Card Sound Road in the upper key Largo.

Firefighting and law enforcement officers with the support of the Florida Highway Patrol have blocked both routes, while the crews work on curb the fire.

The authorities have closed the US 1 to the north and towards the south to give fire units access to additional water sources.

No injuries were reported, but the officials have not yet given any details about the size or cause of the fire.
