Miami-Dade County, Fla. -In Südflorida visited the Catholics in large numbers in the churches to remind you of the awakened times, which marked the first day of Lent, a 40-day season of prayer, fasting and the charity before Easter on April 20.

In Broward County, Miami Archbishop Thomas Wenski celebrated the fair in the Catholic Church of St. Anthony in Fort Lauderdale. In Miami-Dade County was auxiliary bishop Enrique Delgado in the Gesu Church in downtown Miami. The services included prayers for Pope Francis.

In Rome, in the basilica of Saint Sabina, Cardinal Angelo de Donatis read a break from Pope Francis, who was near Gemelli University Hospital, where he was treated on the 10th floor since February 14.

Like many Catholics around the world, the 88-year-old Pope received the shape of a cross on his forehead with ashes from the burned palm branches, which were used last year to commemorate Jesus Triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

“The ashes reminds us that our life is fragile and insignificant: we are dust, from dust that we have been created, and we will return to dust,” said Francis in his Wednesday -Homily, according to the Holy See.
