Chambers held apartment data that would have changed the election result – meaning féin

Minister Jack Chambers “deceived” the public during the election campaign by ignoring apartment data, said a sense Féin TD.

The party's financial spokesman, Pearse Doherty, said that if information about new home builds had been published, this would have changed the result of the election.

A spokesman for Mr. Chambers, who is now a minister of public expenses, said he rejected Mr. Doherty's claims.

The high -ranking government numbers were criticized for claims during the election campaign that almost 40,000 new houses would be built in 2024.

The housing for all tarpaulins set a target of 33,450 new borns for 2024, whereby according to Central Statistics Office (CSO) a total of 30,330 was built-a decline from 6.7 percent to 2023.

On Thursday about the Leinster House Socorth, Doherty claimed that a document from the Department of Household and Economic Department of the Ministry of Finance showed that the government had “deliberately decided to lead the Irish public of Irish public”.

He said, before the Dáil was dissolved on November 8th, Mr. Chambers – the then finance minister – received a report in which data on living housing was analyzed.

The seven -sided report says that 21,634 new houses were completed in the first nine months of the year, which was 3.1 percent lower than in the same period in 2023.

“The failure for the degrees, on the whole, seems to be in line with the recent downward regulations of the forecasts of the Central Bank, which correspond to the production edition of 2023,” it said.

Mr. Doherty said the report of the department for budget & economics from his department made it “very clear” that he was “unavailable” to reach 40,000 new buildings by the end of the year.

“Nevertheless, we left the finance minister on the national broadcaster in Virgin Media, in other radio stations on the way to 40,000 on the way that they would deliver far more houses than in the previous year, which was simply untrue,” said the Donegal TD.

“Why did he deliberately mislead the Irish public? Why does he bury a report he had from his department in which it is said that the prediction was that they would deliver the same, if not fewer houses than in the previous year?

“Why did he allow Micheal Martin, his party leader, to continue to outdo the same falsehood? Why did he allow the Taoiseach and others the same? “

When asked whether he believed that the publication of the housing figures had changed the result of the election, Mr. Doherty said: “If you have a report that comes out the evening before and the minister has to get up and say:“ The officials in my department are the same view as the central bank, and we will probably deliver fewer houses than we have.

A spokesman for Mr. Chambers said: “The finance minister receives a monthly housing update that summarizes reports, projections and publications in the public sector.

“The submission of November 2024 referred to CSO data published on October 24, 2024, and earlier forecasts of the central bank.

“This information was not new. The CSO data was published two weeks earlier and discussed on the day of publication in the Dail.

“The minister was already aware of this contribution by the CSO and the central bank.

“Minister Chambers rejects Deputy Doherty's claims. There were many different bodies and agencies that delivered different projections to the apartment numbers at that time. “
