Charlotte man who was killed at the petrol station was honored at a vigil

His mother says she hopes that this will send a message to the legislator that she will have to invest more resources in coping with public security.

Charlotte, NC family and friends visited a vigil in the candlelight in Camp Greene Park to honor the'mon Thompson, the man who was killed at a petrol station in Charlotte at the beginning of this month.

More than 40 people came out to share their memories of the'mon Thompson. His mother says she hopes that this will send a message to the legislator that she will have to invest more resources in coping with public security.

“I lost a very large part of my soul. Very unimaginable, apparently buried, ”said Latonyah Richardson, Thompson's mother.

Richardson was on the way to Alabama and visited a church when she got the news about the death of her 34-year-old son. The five -member father was killed on February 8 at a Charlotte petrol station in front of Freedom Drive.

“I know that my son loved me because we were very close and I want mom to know that they have to hug their sons. Love your sons, no matter what it looks like, ”said Richardson.

Relatives shared their favorite memories of Thompson as they held balloons, light candles and sing songs.

The vigil occurred in the same week that the Advisory Board of the Office for Prevention of Violence in North Carolina discussed its plan for contraception in the community. The team talked about goals to make the communities safer, but Richardson says that there must be fewer conversations and more measures.

“We need more Outreach programs in which young people go through trauma. It starts from childhood, ”said Richardson.

This plan includes improving the initiatives to public health and strengthening the workforce. In the meantime, Richardson will find ways to cope with the loss of her son.

“Mamma loves you with all my heart, more than anything in this world, and I am very proud of everything you have done and what you have become and what you become,” said Richardson.

Richardson says Thompson did not know the suspect in his death. She says that the suspect, the 29-year-old Gregory Dowana, had a disagreement with Thompson's girlfriend. Dowan is charged with murder and is recorded in the Mecklenburg district prison without bond.
