China's “puppy mountain” becomes viral

When the designer Guo Qingshan based in Shanghai published a vacation photo for Valentine's Day and labeled it “Puppyberg”, it became a sensation in China and even created a tourist destination.

Guo had visited his hometown Yichang in the province of Hubei in a central Chinese hike at the end of January. When he checked the photos, he saw something he hadn't noticed before: a mountain form like the head of a dog that rested on the floor next to the Yangtse river, and his snout sitting on the water of the water.

“It was so magical and sweet. I was so excited and happy when I discovered it, ”said Guo.

“The attitude of the puppy is as if it were drinking water, or it looks at some fish. It also looks like it is calmly protecting the Yangtse, ”he said.

Guo's contribution in the Chinese social media -app Xiaohongshu or Rednote received 120,000 likes within 10 days. On the Weibo media platform, the hashtag #xiaogoushan – Chinese for “Puppyberg” – drew millions of prospects.

Dog owners began to publish pictures of their dogs to see the similarity to. Many people traveled directly to the place in Yichang to see the mountain for themselves, and some even brought their dogs to take photos.

Yang Yang, who lives from the village for about an hour and a half, drove there with her friends and 2-year-old Gray Pudel named Yang Keyi.

“I was really happy to see the mountain,” she said. “I always travel with my dog ​​if possible, so the Puppy Mountain and my own little dog really fit together.”

The mountain is located in Yichang's Zigui County, where it can be seen from an observation deck. The Jangtse River, the longest river in China and the third longest river in the world, flows through the mountain areas.

After Guo's photo had become viral, many people shared photos of the view they had previously taken out of the same deck, and many said they didn't notice that it looked like a dog. Some discussed how the dog's appearance has changed over the years.

Shi Tong, who lived in Yichang, said he knew that he had seen the mountain before and posted a photo that he had taken in 2021.

“After seeing the Puppy Mountain photo online, I tried to see where it was. And then I realized that I've been to this place before. I thought it looked like a dog at that time! ”
