Many Georgians will be on his forehead with ashes next week, but will not be alerted.

It is one of the largest holiday periods in the calendar of a church for Ash Wednesday that marks the official start of Lent. Here is what you need to know about it:

What is borrowed?

Lent is defined by Britannica as the “time of the preparation of the Büß”. It is generally a time of prayer, fasting and the non -profit giving, which lasts 40 days to reflect the history of the 40 days of Jesus Christ in the wilderness.

When does Lent begin and ends?

In America, Lent begins with ashes on Wednesday when pastors bless the municipal goods by marking their forehead with ash. Lent ends with Easter Sunday.

Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the first spring equinox (which normally falls around March 20).

How is Lent celebrated?

While the season looks different depending on the denomination, Lent is mostly characterized by the fact that it did not eat every Friday and the ashes on Wednesday. Fasting on Wednesday and Good Friday (Friday before Easter) is also popular.

Many also give up something that they love throughout the season. While this also looks different from person to person, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Atlantas says that it should be “any form of self-denial”.

But many religious leaders encourage their meetings to do more than typical, help the needy and really take into account the messages of this season.

What are exceptions from the “No Meat” rule for Lent?

In the Catholic Church, they are technically not followed by the rule “no meat” until the age of 14. Many of those who participate know that fish are another exception, but there are more like eggs. The archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis also says that cold bloody animals such as shrimps, frogs, crabs, turtles and oysters are allowed.

According to the conference of the US conference of the Catholic bishops, some people are excused exclusively by these practices, including those who are physically or mentally ill, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Do all Christian denominations celebrate Lent?

Lent is celebrated in any form of many Christian denominations such as Catholics, bishops and Lutherans. However, some do not celebrate it at all, including most baptists and non -denominational Christians.
