Coco Gauff says what happened in her game against Belinda Bencic, which she really didn't want to happen

Coco Gauff saw how her Indian Wells campaign had come to an end after she had lost in three sets against Belinda Bencic.

Gauff had written the history of the Indian Wells by reaching the fourth round of the WTA 1000 tournament again, but could not take over.

However, it was not with some of her best tennis, and Gauff was admittedly disappointed by some of her appearances in California.

This is something with which Gauff won the US Open in 2023, but could not avoid Bencic in her fourth round game.

Coco Gauff says what she didn't want to happen against Belinda Bencic, that did it

Bencic has been in good shape since returning to the WTA tour after giving birth to her first child last year, which Gattuff knew about the game in her press conference.

However, the world number three admitted that she had her opponent dictated too much with her backhand.

“I felt like today, I mean, against Belinda is hard because she hits the ball so low and flat. So it is difficult to hit the way I want, but I mean I made some mistakes in the last game and also in the game before,” said Gauf.

“I don't know. This feels like one of these things in which I have to work more for more margin. At the same time the match was in the third set four and we held a serve, both held on to serve.

“Maybe the wind on the other side was more with me, so I think that I certainly overplayed these balls. I felt like I was on the nearby side of my box, it was definitely against the wind and it was more difficult to hit through.

“Well, yes, I think it's a balance in it, but I think today, frankly, I felt that I had the feeling that she was dictated a lot from the back hunt. I think that's something I don't want to happen, especially I have the feeling that this is the corner that I should dictate more. “

Coco Gauff explains what has changed with her serve against Belinda Bencic

Gauff's surcharge is often a topic of the debate, especially after she made twice the mistake in her opening game in Indian Wells against Moyuka Uchijima.

This slightly improved round, which meant that Gauff reduces eight double errors against Bencic.

However, the second percentage of the surcharge remained at a low 33%, while Bencic rose by 50%.

Gauff in Indian Wells 2025 Aces Double error First surcharge % First surcharge win % Second serve victory %
VS Moyuka Uchijima 4 21 65 67 25
Against Maria Sakkari 2 9 64 77 33
Against Belinda Bencic 4 8 69 78 33

When asked about her surcharge, it revealed that she had moved to the practical court to make some changes, but was not entirely satisfied with the execution of the penultimate game, in which she had broken out of 40 love.

“I think everything is connected. We changed a way with the serve, ”said the 21-year-old. “I don't want to go into details, but yes, I mean, I went the practical court after the first day and after the other day.

: You know, I still think I could have served better. Was obviously more consistent, but definitely more aggressive. It was a kind of these things in which I didn't serve the tournament well, so it is more to just try to get it in.

“That does not mean-I mean, I did some good service today, but I feel particularly like 40 in this last game, I could probably have greater in these moments. But yes, as you said, it is an improvement and hopefully can continue to do better from here. “
