Colbert County EMA director shares security tips in front of storm | News

We go through a few simple things you can do now to prepare for storm effects.

Jody Hitt, director of Colbert County, said Waay 31 on Friday that everything begins to pay attention to the weather and know where to go to stay safe.

“Fixed walls, all four walls around you.”

Jody Hitt, Emergency Management Director of Colbert County, is the goal – a room with four robust walls that surround them.

He says that this often includes corridors, basements or cupboards. However, there are places to avoid.

“If you have a large open living room or something, everything has the glass. The closer you can reach each other and into a narrow space, the better you will be,” said Hitt.

If this is not an option, he suggests getting into a bathtub and covering himself with a blanket.

But that's not all.

“I strongly recommend having a helmet – whether it is a bicycle helmet, a motorcycle helmet or one is everything that can protect your head. If you can, do it when you can do it into a good blanket,” said Hitt.

And if you are caught outside or in your car when the storm hits – remember:

“Out, let it go. But if you roll up into a ball, the wind can absorb you. It is more difficult to move when you spread,” added Hitt.

He also reminds people that they are in pajamas when they have time to put the right clothes and shoes – in case.
