The leaders of Connecticut GOP asked the US Justice Ministry on Friday to start an investigation into allegations of election fraud in Bridgeport after one of the accused had dismantled concerns about the systemic scandal in the state after eyebrows.

The Republicans of the General Assembly of Connecticut sent a letter to the US general Prosecutor Pam Bondi, after Alfredo Castillo, member of the city council of Bridgeport, claimed that he was only “the following instructions” of the democratic leader to state the vote when he contained the misconduct in connection with the allegations of fraud in the mayor breed of the city in 2023.

“I am innocent,” said Castillo after his arrest on February 21, only in Bridgeport. “I follow the instructions of the Democratic Party. This is what you tell us to get the vote out. Then we are criminalized. “

Days after these comments, the Republicans of Connecticut wrote a letter to the DOJ in which he applied for an investigation.

“The Castillo City Council's own words indicate a broader operation that includes top -class democratic candidates at a state and federal level,” said Candelora about the investigation during a press conference on Friday.

“We cannot ignore the possibility that these corrupt practices go beyond Bridgeport.”

Castillo was one of the five local political companies that were criminal to displeasure in the democratic area code of Bridgeport 2023 between Mayor Joe Ganim and the challenger John Gomes allegedly absent -making ballot.

Ganim was declared the winner when the ballot papers for absent ballots occurred after Gomes had won the most votes in the surveys, the public prosecutor announced this month at the announcement of criminal measures.

A judge ordered a new election after Gomes claimed voter fraud, even though Ganim was again victorious.

Castillo, 53; Maria Pereira, 57; And Jazmarie Melendez, 26, are the trio of city council members who are charges for the deputy committee of the city committee of the city, Wanda Geter-Ptaki (68), 92 charges, including conspiracy, to take possession of several defense slips, said officials from the public prosecutor.

The 45 -year -old Margaret Joyce, who was supposedly part of the voting program, was also charged.

The allegations include the instruction of absence voters, for whom you hand over your ballot papers, change the ballot papers, fill in and submit the ballot papers of other voters themselves and register a non-state member to vote.

In his interview with only in Bridgeport, Castillo also complained that he was “sour and frustrated” to face the criminal charges and claimed: “If we do not get the vote out, Ganim loses.”

When he answered the claim that he registered a non-state member for voting, he said: “How should I know? She gave me a social security number. “

“How much loyal do you want it to be? We come from the vote and are criminalized, ”he said.

“Now we have to pay for lawyers. I am a woman and children who are afraid to go to prison. The party should have lawyers who represent us. “

GOP officials of the constitution state want to know whether a similar fraud takes place in other parts of the state.

“Such an investigation is crucial for the restoration of public trust in our electoral system, which was greatly undermined by the scandals in Bridgeport,” says the letter.

The five defendants either refused misconduct or remained the mother about the fees.
