Could Joey Bosa Nick connect to 49ers after he was released by Chargers?

The Chargers released Joey Bosa on Wednesday evening and increased the possibility that the Pro Bowl Pass -rusher could join his younger brother Nick on the San Francisco 49ers.

The 49s need an experienced Edge -Rusher and the Bosa brothers have discussed the wish to play together in the past. Nick Bosa discussed the potential pairing in the “Richard Sherman Podcast” in 2022, two years after Joey signed a contract for five years with $ 135 million, which made him the best paid defender of the NFL.

“Joey definitely looks good financially,” said Bosa. “But I think he would be a way on the other side (with the 49s) – I think it could break the NFL.”

The Bosa brothers both played in the state of Ohio, but were never team -mates. They spent a season together at St. Thomas Aquina's High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida when Joey Senior and Nick was a newcomer.

The chargers separated from Bosa (29) because in 2025 he was supposed to count 36.47 million US dollars against the salary limit, a massive number that they did not want to absorb after his last three seasons. Bosa missed 23 out of 51 games from 2022-24 and had only 14 sacks while dealing with injuries to the groin area, his foot, his thighs, toes, back and hips.

Bosa, who lasted a salary of $ 7 million for the stay with the chargers last year, said that he could see the end of his nine-year career at the end of the 2024 career.

“Probably not much time left for me,” said Bosa to The Athletic. “It comes quickly.”

Joey Bosa was the NFL -defensive rookie of the year in 2016, set up an NFL record with 19 sacks in his first 20 career games and was elected to the Pro Bowl in four of his first six seasons. His 72 career bags take the 12th place among the active players and second in the history of Chargers.

The 49s took the 23rd place last season with 37 sacks in the NFL. Her three top edge rushes are Nick Bosa, Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos. The 49s signed Floyd and gross matos last year and were able to create a significant salary limit by releasing one of the Pass-Rushers with a name after June 1st.

The 49s would achieve $ 7.95 million of CAP savings by publishing Floyd and $ 7.82 million by separating grossomatos.
