Could the most important player from Man City return on schedule?

Rodri's injury was a turning point in the Manchester City season. It was always likely that the Premier League champions would miss him in the center of the field, but only a few said that the city would miss in the middle of the field without the Spanish international.

When things are standing, Manchester City is 20 points of the pace of Liverpool at the head of the Premier League table. It has been clear for a few months that the team of Pep Guardiola will not be a factor for the title race with City in the 24th round in the title race this season after the defeat against Real Madrid.

City is still in the FA Cup this season, but the rest of the 2024/25 campaign is mostly about preparing for the 2025/26 season. The reconstruction began in January Transfer window with the adding of Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis and it continues in summer. More money is spent.

There have been suggestions recently that Rodri could return to the plot before the end of the season. In fact, the midfielder is back in individual training and was accepted into the Champions League squad from Manchester City before losing against Real Madrid. His return would be another thing to prepare the city next season.

“[The] most importantly [thing] Because Rodri should now recover well, ”said Guardiola, when he was recently asked about the possibility that Rodri returned to Manchester City earlier than expected. “It's going really well and it feels really good, but we will see step by step.”

Gonzalez was brought to strengthen the midfield unit in the transfer window in January, but the former Barcelona player has produced mixed performances for his new team. In the meantime, Kevin de Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan are far into the dawn of their respective career and will no longer have a contract at the end of the season. A midfield reconstruction is on the horizon.

At this moment there is no other central midfielder on Rodri on Rodris level. He was a deserved winner of the balloon d'Or last year and is the Lynchpin who holds the city of Manchester together. It is not surprising that the city was a worse team in its absence. Guardiola certainly counts the days until the Spaniard is available again.
