CT law draft, in which the theater are required to disclose the start times, attracts national attention

If the draft law becomes a law, people would see twice instead of one thing when buying cinema cards in the state: the time in which advertisements and trailers begin and the actual start.

Connecticut, USA -locking film visitors Endless advertisements and trailers in the theaters and ask when the actual film will begin, a new state bill could change that.

The proposed legislation would have to demand that the theater should promote the actual start time of the films.

If the invoice becomes a law, people would see twice instead of one if they buy in Connecticut cinema cards: the time that starts and trailers start and the actual start time of the film.

“The invoice came from the voters. Over the years I have heard of a number of voters who are frustrated that the time specified in the advertisement was not the actual time of the characteristic,” said Senator Martin Looney, who introduced the law that caused the theater up to $ 1,000 per violation.

The bill has attracted national attention. The debate is under Vloggers, outlets such as barstool and thousands of people who reproduce and comment on articles.

“Truth in advertising and consumer protection is under the general heading,” said Looney.

However, there are also critics.

“We already have so many challenges that come out of Covid. We are still trying to crawl back on the way back. Another regulation and something we have to do is not helpful,” said Lew Michaels, managing director of Cinestudio, an independent film theater in Hartford.

He and other managers in the cinema industry make several concerns about the legislative template.

“We just have films that are just fully booked in April. I have no idea which trailers will show in front of these films. So, the attempt to put a time on our website when people buy tickets to say: 'Hey, we'll have 12 minutes trailer,' It's just not practical,” said Michaels. “I think there could be a problem with advertisers who don't want to be on the screen if they don't look at these ads, and this is a large income limit for most theaters.”

Looney reads the reviews in the middle of his other work in the State Capitol.

“We have a number of big topics this year,” said Looney. “We are not yet able to know what the level of federal cuts will look like. We have to make important decisions about the financing of special education, the financing of general education and also about the support of university formation and how to deal with the Medicaid deficiency if the government decides not to finance it through current levels and prescription drug costs.”

He said he was surprised at how much attention the calculation gets.

“It reminds me years ago that there was a comedian Robert Klein and he did a little once, where he portrayed Shakespeare and was noticed that his piece 'Titus Andronicus' created a great sum and a large award, and he said: 'Titus Andronicus?' I am the author of “Hamlet”, “Othello”, “Romeo and Julia”.

The general legal committee is currently considering feedback from a public hearing and has until March 24, to publish the bill from the committee, and for a vote on full legislation.
