The head coach of West Virginia, Darian Devries, published an explanation after his team was excluded from the NCAA tournament field on Sunday.
“Obviously we are extremely shocked, sad and disappointed that we were not selected for the NCAA tournament. We firmly believe that we have a big resume that is worthy of a NCAA tournament team,” said Devries.
The mountaineers were the first team from the NCAA tournament field, according to the NCAA tournament selection committee. The WVU achieved a total of 19 wins this season, six as a quad 1 victory.
“I am incredibly proud of this team and what you have built in this season.
In addition to Devries, WVU sports director Wren Baker published an explanation on social media that evening and called it a “travesty” that the mountaineers from the tournament were left out.
It is not known whether West Virginia will accept another post -season.
