Davenport Man, who is charged with fatal shooting in the Chicago River North Building

A man was charged with A Deadly shoot in a river North Hotel/Apartment Building Last Sunday.

Demetris Shorter, 35, from Davenport, Iowa, was charged with the first degree of first degree due to a first degree murder.

The shootout occurred on Saturday, February 23, around 8:15 p.m. in the Level Hotels & furnished Suites Luxury Hotel and Apartment Building in the 369 W. Grand Ave. in the Orleans Street.

A woman was shot in a suite in the building. The police said she found it on her shoulder as a 32-year-old Kenliada Porter from the medical examiner's office in a guest room. She was taken to the Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she died.

An autopsy showed that the cause of death came from several shot wounds.

Another victim, a 29-year-old woman, was shot in the lobby. A source said the victim was a security guard who tried to prevent the shooter from gaining access to the rest of the building. It was brought to the Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition.

The suspect, which was later identified as shorter, left the scene in a brown sports utility vehicle to the east.

The public prosecutor said that during his prison on Saturday, Shorter turned into the police shortly before 6 p.m. on Friday.

They said that shorter and Porter had been checked into the building on February 21. The next day, around 8:07 p.m., someone living in one of the rooms lived when the desk of the receptionist named shots heard.

Kurzter then became the starting door in the western treyout near the elevators minutes later before returning around 8:19 p.m., where he approached the desk of the receptionist and asked for another key card in his room. The public prosecutor said that a maintenance worker was present during the interaction.

Shortly left and then returned to the desk. Then he shot the second victim into his neck after he had just pushed against each other. Then he left the building again.

Further studies meant that officials found porters in the room where she lived but bleed out of gunshot wounds. Two 9 millimeter shells were found in the room, and another was found in the stairwell, the prosecutors said.

Witnesses and surveillance videos identified shorter than the suspect who checked into the room and shot the victims.

The police found a black Kia SUV, which he rented the following afternoon, where they recovered his wallet, a 9-millimeter pistol and an additional shell case from the room and the stairs.

The residents of the building said that the 30th floor was aside among those that are set aside for the use of hotel uses.
