Deadly Shooting in Mamou lets the community broken

Mamou – Mamou, La – a fatal shooting during a Mardi Gras Zydeco event on Tuesday afternoon, the Mamou community left behind. What a joyful fat Tuesday celebration was quickly tragic when shots were equipped and caused chaos and fear among the participants.

Patrick Hall, police chief of Mamou, confirmed that two people died at the shootout and several others were injured, including two people who are in a critical condition. The violence has shaken many residents, and some in question questioned their security.

A video submitted to Katc shows a large amount that dances and enjoys Chris Ardoin's music, which occurred during the Mardi Gras event. Suddenly shots interrupted the celebration and let people flee and search for protection. Mardi Gras Decorations were still decorating the streets on Wednesday morning, but the police band now marked the place of the tragic event.

A provider from Texas who wanted to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation was near the scene when the shootout took place. She described the moment of terror.

“The band played and I cleared up when I heard shots … I immediately took cover and then there was nothing more than chaos and chaos. It was so scary,” she said.

The Evangeline Parish Parish office and the state police examined the scene on Wednesday morning, spoke to the residents and tried to put together the events. The police are working on determining the details of this shootout and a separate incident in the night before and violating three people.

The two shootings that occurred within a period of 24 hours have led a total of 14 injuries. Mamous police chief Hall is obliged to solve the crimes, but recognized the challenges of his department due to limited resources.

“We were prepared for this, but again they cannot control the influx and the effects of the crowds. We thought the weather would make it smaller, but people stayed around. We had the workers, but they cannot control what's going on, ”said Hall.

The city council Derrell Thomas, who was present during the event, expressed his heartache about the tragedy. “This is really heartbreaking. Mardi Gras is big in Mamou and it's the only thing we have, ”he said. “First of all, I would like to send my condolences to the family because I was on stage and I also had my little ones with me.”

Katc asked Thomas why the event was not canceled after shooting on Monday evening in the sixth and in Oak Street. He explained that the heads of state and government had initially planned to cancel the event due to storms, but as soon as the weather was clarified, everything seemed to be running smoothly. As a result, he and the boss decided to continue with the event as planned.

Chief Hall, visibly affected by the event, shared the emotional tribute that he asked for. “That was what my heart lived last night to see the family here and the child is on the plan. We only ask for prayers, we all need them,” he said.

While it remains unclear whether the two shootings are connected or how many shooters were involved, the police identified a person of interest in the shootings on Tuesday, but did not make any arrests. Chief Hall asks everyone with information to report and assures that all tips remain anonymous.

“We have to go to the drawing board the next time we do better and find out how it should be repaired,” Hall said, emphasizing his department's commitment to prevent such violence in the future.

Katc continues to urge the release of the deceased people, but did not hear the police.
