Desantis promotes his wife as the next governor of Florida and shoots on Trump's choice

Tallahassee, Fla. (Ap) – When Florida governor Ron Desantis approaches the end of his second term, he speaks a potential heir to meet him in 2026: his wife Casey Desantis. And he makes a shot of President Donald Trump's choice to be the next governor.

Desantis was interviewed by reporters in Tampa on Monday and watched his wife as a convinced conservative that would build on his legacy and argued that the first lady of the state could include even more voters than him. Desantis won a dominant re -election win with a lead of almost 20 points in 2022.

“She is someone who, I think, the intestinal force and commitment to conservative principles,” said Desantis about his wife. “Everything we have achieved could go to the next level.”

The comments came days after the president had thrown his support behind us Rep. Byron Donalds, a Republican in Florida who was a prominent replacement for Trump on the campaign path and cable news.

“We achieved victories in Florida,” said Desantis on Monday. “A guy like Byron, he was simply not part of the victories that we had here in the past few years about the left -wing victories.”

Desantis's comments create a potential feeling of face between the Republican governor and the president, who defeated him last year for the nominated Republican presidential closer. Desantis, who is temporary, can run again for the President in 2028 and has worked to rebuild his relationship with Trump.

The first lady's efforts have long been the subject of the Tallahassee Salon discussion. This chatter has become louder in the past few weeks, since the tensions between the governor and the allies of Trump have remained in Florida's legislature.

“Byron Donalds would be a really big and powerful governor for Florida and, if he decided to have my complete and total confirmation,” wrote Trump on Thursday on social media. “Run, Byron, run!”

The Donalds office did not immediately answer inquiries about comments. Last week he spoke to the conservative political action conference after Trump's post and asked the audience to “stay tuned” about his future plans.

The former US representative Matt Gaetz, another convincing Trump -ally, criticized Desantis' comments in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

“Man, it hurts to see that,” said Gaetz. “Governor Desantis, don't you remember when you (Donalds) and I worked together to choose them in 2018? We were literally your preparation for debate. “
