Although Bong Joon Ho's films have been successful in South Korea for years, he appeared in the 2019 parasite in the broader American zeitgeist, who took several Oscars home, including the best picture. Next week he releases Mickey 17, his new Science Fiction comedy with Robert Pattinson. Despite its unique and far-reaching films, the audience should not expect the Oscar winner's musical shortly.

“I have great respect for musicals,” said the filmmaker to Stephen Colbert for a recent visit to the late show. “I particularly like Jesus Christ Superstar. I love all this jazz. But I could never make a musical. I can't stand as soon as they start singing,” he admitted what led to laughter from the audience.

“You see that the characters only speak like normal conversations and then suddenly tonight” … “he said and broke out in a spontaneous reproduction of the famous story number of West Side Story.”

The new film Mickey 17 by Bong Joon Ho follows the unfortunate Mickey Barnes, who was in the extraordinary circumstances to work for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job to die to earn his livelihood. Written and staged by Bong Joon Ho, The Movie Stars Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, the candidate of the Oscar winner Steven Yeun, with the Oscar candidate Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo, the Oscar. The film is only distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures in the cinemas nationwide on March 7, 2025.
