Do you need a nap? Tips from a doctor from Wisconsin to manage a change in time

Do you feel like you need a nap? You are not alone. It is often the result of a fight when adapting to a change of time. Experts say that the loss of just an hour weeks can have an impact on your sleeping pattern. Dr. Steven Gale with Preva family medicine at the West de Pere Health Center gives some tips on how a nap can be a simple solution to feel more energetic.

If you only lose an hour, you can affect your sleep pattern for weeks.

“The circadian rhythm of the body is sensitive to changes in time and this disorder can be tired and not synchronized,” explains Dr. Gael. “If we don't sleep enough, it throws off our normal rhythm, which means that we can feel worn out.”

Adults often try to separate through exhaustion. But Dr. Gales work with the patients find that there is a value in a short nap – ideally 20 to 30 minutes. And the timing is the key.

“A short nap can help relieve the sleep debt, increase energy and even improve cardiovascular health over time,” he says. “The nap between 2 and 3 p.m. is most effective. If it is too late, it can affect the night's sleep. “


Results of a recent survey by Sleep Foundation:

  • 80.7% of the US -growing people have made at least one nap in the past three months
  • Adults a nap of just over 94 days a year
  • An average nap for most adults is an hour

And while adults may not get the same amount of sleep as children, a nap can still be an advantage for all ages. Dr. Gale encourages those who feel tired of using the opportunity to charge.

“If you feel like you need a nap and have time, do it,” he advises.
