Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, faces questions about his US residency status after using the past of drug use in his memoir. The Duke, who stepped down by royal duties in 2020 and moved to California with his wife Meghan Markle, publicly recognized cocaine, marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms.

A US court has now instructed the release of edited documents in connection with Prince Harry's Visa application. The command takes place after a long legal dispute between the US Ministry of Homeland Protection (DHS) and the Heritage Foundation, a conservative thought factory in Washington DC.

What is Prince Harry's Visa case?

The Heritage Foundation submitted freedom of information and argued that Prince Harry's admission to consumption of drugs caused concerns about potential falsehoods in his visa proposal.

According to a BBC report, Prince Harry's book published in January 2023 describes its experience with drugs. He admitted that he first tried with 17 cocaine, an experience that he said that he did not bring him luck, even though he seemed to do so for others.

“It wasn't much fun, and it didn't make me particularly happy because it all seemed to do it around me, but it made me different, and that was the main goal,” he was quoted by BBC.

The prince said he wanted to feel “different”. The book also touched his use of marijuana, a drug that he found in contrast to cocaine, of which he said he “did nothing for him”.

USVISA applications expressly inquire about previous and current drug use, and dishonesty can lead to a rejection of the applications or the revocation of visas. The Heritage Foundation tries to determine whether Prince Harry was honest in his drug history and whether he received preferred treatment due to his royal status.

According to the BBC, the Department of Homeland Security has published immigration documents until the end of Tuesday, as ordered by the court.

Case was opened again

Initially, a judge decided in favor of Prince Harry, citing his data protection rights. However, the Heritage Foundation remained, which led to a partial reversal of the decision. Richter Nichols, who monitors the case, said: “As far as possible, I have to do everything that can be made public.

Prince Harry moved to the United States with his wife Meghan, a US citizen in 2020, after they had resigned from their roles as high -ranking members of the royal family. The specific visa that Harry went into the USA remains unclear.

What Donald Trump says

While President Donald Trump has the authority to intervene, he declared that he had no intention to pursue Prince Harry's deportation. However, he was publicly critical of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, especially Meghan Markle, who was open to Trump in the past.
