Dog that was saved from burned home gave a new life as a fire department. Mascot after the owner dies in GA Fire WSB TV channel 2

Gilmer County, Ga. – A dog who was orphaned when his owner died in a house fire, found a new life contract thanks to some compassionate animal lovers Gilmer County.

On January 24th, Gilmer County Fire Rescue Crews reacted to a house fire.

When they arrived, the house was devoured in flames.

As they were working on extinguishing the fire, a small dog wandered through the scene.

Despite the chaos of the fire, the dog stayed close to the responders.

As firefighters for short moments of calm, he trotted on them and sat down next to them.

Hours later, when the fire was deleted, firefighters learned that the homeowner had died during the fire.

Two days later, a Gilmer County fire department returned to the scene to evaluate the damage and check the surviving animals.

When he arrived in the burned house, he saw the same little dog.

The boss discovered several dogs that lived in a shed in the back on the property.

Since no family is available immediately to accept it, the firefighters performed.

The dog was brought back to station 1.

First he hesitated to settle down in his new environment.

He was given the name of Riggs and was brought to Medical Treatment at Friends of Gilmer Animal Shelter (an Animal Accountability Organization by Gilmer County).

Riggs was neutered, vaccinated and treated for fleas and ticks.

Sharon Callan, a dog trainer at Paws, was a good 4 U and founder of Shelter Dogs for Veterans, donated her time to Lt. To train riggs.

Gilmer County Citizens donated a welded kennel outdoors, a robust Igluo dog house, and provided chewing for boxes with toys and treats.

Lt. Riggs will be the first therapy dog ​​for the fire brigade.

He will contribute to comforting moments in crisis.
