Dozens of displaced persons, including children, after the fire by Paterson, New Jersey Homes

Paterson, New Jersey (WABC) – Dozens are displaced after a fire in Paterson, New Jersey, was used by several houses.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Sunday on the 400 block of the Totowa Ave. When the five alarm fire became under control, 44 people, including six people, became homeless.

“I feel bad. When I talk about children, I don't like it if you have to miss school. That will affect it.

Onerlis Martinez lived on the second floor of one of the badly damaged houses and lost all of his possessions.

“Everything, all my clothes, computers – everything,” said Martinez.

Ivette Sanchez says when she fled from the fire, she didn't know if all of her pets made it.

“I tried to bring out my mother and my sister brought my dogs with them. My mother's blanket started to burn,” said Sanchez.

All residents made it safe and no deaths or injuries were reported.

When the Red Cross is looking for a temporary protection, Martinez Eyewitness News says that his nephew first discovered the fire in the neighbor's backyard.

“He saw how a fire came out of the back yard. Carton is burning,” says Martinez.

Neighboring cities sent firefighters to help. First aiders could have the fire to destroy the rest of the block.

The mayor says it is too early to determine whether the apartment buildings can be recovered.
