Early Wildland fire season in Alaska – Alaska Wildland Fire Information expected

A public order was granted in which an early fire season was explained in the DOF coastal region of Forestry & Brand Protection (DOF) and Southeast -Alaska. For all countries in the order from March 17, 2025, combustion permits are required.

The Alaska Division of Forestry & Fire Protection (DOF) has issued a public arrangement in which an early start to the fire time in the coastal region of DOF was explained, which comprises a large part of the southwest, South Center and Southeast Salaskas. The State Forester has found that the weather conditions such as warm temperatures and a low snow packaging in certain areas of Alaska increase the risk of a wildland fire before the legally defined fire season, which normally begins on April 1. The order comes into force on Monday, March 17, 2025 at 12:00 p.m.

The areas of increased risk of forest fire include:

  • Copper River-Valdez Dof Protection Area,
  • MAT-SU DOF protection area,
  • Kenai-Kodiak Dof Protection Area,
  • McGrath-Südwest-Dof protection area and
  • All of Southeast -Alaska
A map of the region in the public order for the emergency declaration of the early fire season. From March 17, 2025, combustion permits will be required for all areas in Dofs coastal region and Southeast -Alaska.

The increased risk of the fire from Wildland in these areas guarantees an early explanation of the Wildland fire brigade season on March 17, 2025. According to the Alaska statute as 41.15.010 permits, this order applies to all state, private and municipal areas within the region (see attached card). The areas that are not specified in this order are not subject to this early fire season name.

Further information on combustion permits, secure combustion practices and the prevention of forest fires of humans are available at Dnr.alaska.gov/burn.

The complete public order, as approved under 41,15,050 fire brigade season, is available from: Or can be viewed here as a PDF.
