Edison was warned of Eaton Fire before the wind monitoring – NBC Los Angeles

California fire protection security officers have repeatedly warned in South California Edison to improve weather tracking in order to prevent wind-operated fire, but the supply company adhered to the Eaton fire that his efforts correspond to the standards of the world.

State officials informed the pension company for the first time in 2022 that more frequent weather tracking was of crucial importance in order to strengthen Edison's “situational awareness” in order to decide whether the power supply should be switched off to prevent fires.

This warning may have been forward -looking, as in the hours before the Eaton fire, according to company officials, the weather track system was not so sufficiently sufficient to earn the transmission system in which the fire began.

While the cause of the fire continues to be examined, the authorities suspect that extreme Santa Ana winds drove a living power line close enough to inspire a nearby, long-used line. The surveillance video recorded two flashes on a tower at the end of Edison's regular Mesa Syma line, where another video shows how the fire began at the foot of the tower.

“In strong winds, another power line could have come too close to this deadline,” said Ken Buske, an experienced electrical engineer and fire investigator.

A sudden spust on the dead, he said, could lead to overheating and sparks in a faulty ground connection at a tower at the end of this regular line.

A fire expert says that Edison's practice is to check wind conditions every ten minutes, it could have left it susceptible to such a disaster.

“The Santa Anas and the fire environment in South California – it is one of the most difficult fire environments in the world,” said Scott Stephens, professor of fire science at UC Berkeley.

He says that wind surveillance is becoming increasingly important when research results show that Santa Ana -Winden is stronger and later blowing in the Fire Age.

In the hours before the fire, Stephens said: “These winds were very, very high.”

Stephens says that in such extreme conditions, the 10-minute weather monitoring may not be sufficient to understand the threat.

“Often they will just miss the gusts – the gust will be there and gone when they carry out another measurement.”

Three years before the fire, as documents show, the State Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety Edison warned of this 10-minute trace rate. Officials informed the pension company that the 10-minute speed “far below” the twice a minute used by supply companies in the north and south used twice a minute.

“This center here enables us to monitor the weather at an unprecedented level,” said a PG & e-weather expert when its 30-second weather tracking system was introduced in 2021. San Diego Gas & Electric occupied a similar system at that time.

In her most recent assessment of Edison's forest fire plan, the state official, who is confirmed by the 10-minute tracking frequency, could restrict the “situational awareness” to extreme conditions through climate change.

During the commitment of the continuing improvements to his weather monitoring system in October last year, towards state fire security officials that it would initially take the 10-minute standard for three seconds to continue to use the 10-minute standard in accordance with the guidance of the world meteorological organization.

In an explanation, Edison said that it tried to “alleviate” the weather tracking issues characterized by the authorities in 2022 in 2022. The state was “satisfied” with its efforts when it ratified the latest forest fire plan. While records show that they have deregistered Edison's plan, the state supervisory authorities listed the weather track level of the pension company as a “continued improvement”.

The risk of fire in South California has decreased thanks to the recent rains, but when a new fire season is approaching, it seems that Socal Edison will continue to receive weather updates every 10 minutes, while the suppliers get twice a minute in the north and south.
