El Paso dentist offers tips for parents

El Paso, TX (KVIA) – February marks the national month for children for dental children, and local health officers emphasize the importance of the early establishment of healthy tooth habits.

ABC-7 spoke to Kelley Brooks, the chief dentist at the Department of Public Health of the City of El Paso, who emphasized that the parents play a crucial role in protecting their children from hollow rooms and other problems of oral health.

“Children need structure,” said Brooks. “Make sure your child is seen every six months for the routine visit.”

According to Brooks, children should brush their teeth twice a day, regularly make dental floss and eat healthy.

“I know that it is very popular for us to add additional lemons, limes and tajin to our spicy chips,” she adds. “But that's just pure acidity. Once it mixes with your saliva, it creates an acidic paste and this acidic paste is called plaque. It sits on the dental structure and pulls out the calcium that is weakened by the calcification areas. “

According to Brooks, cavities remain one of the most common dental concerns in children. “So limit it to the portion size, too much if your fingertips and lips and your tongue become orange,” she emphasized.

For families without dental insurance, Rawlings Dental Clinic offers extensive services. “We serve the non -insured and under -insured pediatric population,” said Brooks. “All children who cross our threshold receive services regardless of their ability or inability.”

The city of El Paso has a belonging to a state title Five scholarship, which enables them to be looked after all children.

Brooks encourages the parents to plan their child's first dental visit at the age of six months and to continue the investigations every six months.
