Empire 8 student athletes from six different institutions began on Friday, March 14th, at the NCAA Division III Indoor Athletics Championships on Friday, March 14th, at the NCAA Division III Indoor Effecting Athletics Championship on Friday, March 14th, from the Golisano Training Center, the E8 Institution Nazareth University in Pittsford, NY, was organized. The Suny Geneseo Women's team is sixth in the team competition after the campaign on Friday.
Suny Geneseo Senior Penelope Greene received second in the 5,000-meter run. She led or was in the main group in the first 2,600 meters before fell to fourth place. She used a malignant late kick to bring the later Champion Faith Duncan from Wilmington College into the lead and to reach the finish line in a time of 16: 39.36.
The senior janelle Eckl from Geneseo was fifth in the pentathlon with a career best number of 3,657 points, only 17 points that shy away from the record of All-Time Empire 8. She was the top finisher in the high jump, triggered 1.66 meters and organized a show to win the last event, the 800-meter run in a time of 2: 15.57 by over five seconds.
Lea Richard, doctoral student of Nazareth, took ninth place in the recording to earn her second all-American, a second honor. It was one of 10 E8 student athletes who collected the second team for all-American awards on Friday.
Victoria Brewster from Houghton University has referred to the finale of the 60-meter fitting board with an E8 record time of 7.49 seconds. Brynn Mooney from Geneseo took second place in the preliminary round of the 400 meters to qualify for the championship race, while Geneseos 4 x 400-meter relay team took seventh place in the preliminaries and will take on a national title on Saturday evening. All will receive all-American awards for the first team after the campaign on Saturday.
Alexa Belanger from Houghton will also compete on Saturday at the high jump.
On the men's side, Jonathan Zavala won his preliminary heat and was the fastest performer in the mile with a time of 4: 10.50. Jacob Miller from Geneseo recorded the third best time in the prelims of the 400-meter dash and ended a record time of Empire 8 of 47.87 seconds. Both will receive the first team NCAA all-American awards after the final on Saturday.
Hunter of Logan from Utica University will fight for a national title at the start, while Manuel Sepulveda from St. John Fisher University will compete on Saturday.
The top 20 declared student athletes were included in the championship for the individual event of every men, including the heptathlon. For the individual individual events for women, including pentathlon, the top 20 declared student athletes were included in the championship. The top 12 declared relay team, one pro institution, were included in the championship for each contested season event.
